A photo calendar is both a picture display and a useful object. An attractive monthly photograph is of limited help if dates are unreadable from the normal distance or there is no space for notes. First decide whether it will hang on a wall, stand on a desk or serve as a birthday reference.
Check the grid before the pictures
Choose a template with the date structure you need. For appointment notes, sufficiently large cells matter more than maximizing photograph area. A perpetual birthday calendar needs different information from a calendar for one particular year. Establish that distinction before entering personal dates.
Check start month, year, first day of the week and language. Holidays differ by country or region, so do not accept template entries without checking. Compare added birthdays with a reliable list rather than memory.
Choose twelve images as a sequence
A seasonal sequence may suit the project, but is not compulsory. A family calendar might show people or shared occasions. Avoid twelve almost identical photographs when varied moments are available. Check each file has sufficient resolution for its intended area.
Inspect the crop in the actual template. A wide calendar image box can heavily crop vertical photographs. Use a bordered or multi-image layout if important people would otherwise disappear. Keep heads and lettering away from binding, hanging holes and trim edges.
Inspect a page at actual size
Print a simple draft page or inspect it at actual size. Are dates and personal entries readable? Does text over a dark photograph have adequate contrast? If not, place it on a quiet separate area instead.
Then inspect every month, not just the opening page. Look for empty placeholders, duplicated photographs and accidentally shifted birthdays. Otherwise, an error remains visible throughout a month of daily use.
Consider personal information and reordering
A calendar containing family pictures and birthdays includes information about other people. Choose recipients and display location accordingly. A less personal version may suit a public office better than the kitchen at home.
Keep the project labelled with year and product type. For a later edition, check date grids and weekdays again; changing only the cover year is insufficient. Photographs may remain while the calendar section requires a complete update.
